National Irrigation Admi-nistration and China CAMC Engineering signed the contract for the construction of Chico River Pump Irrigation Project.
NIA Administrator Ricardo Visaya, Senior Deputy Administrator Abraham Bagasin, Deputy Administrator for Engineering and Operations C'zar Sulaik, and Deputy Administrator for Administrative and Finance Romeo Gan together with Mr. Jin Yuan, Commercial Counsellor of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China and Mr. Liu Shencheng, Assistant President of China CAMC sealed the deal for the Construction of Pump, Sub Station, Diversion Main Canal, Lateral Canals, Appurtenant Structures, Service/ Access Road and Terminal Facilities for CRPIP on March 8, 2018 at NIA Central Office in Quezon City.
CRPIP, one of the flagship projects of the Duterte Adminstration under the Build, Build, Build Program, has a total budget of Php 4.37 billion. It is expected to provide efficient and reliable irrigation service to 8,700 hectares of riceland; 7,530 hectares of which are located in Cagayan and the remaining 1,170 hectares are in Kalinga. 4,350 farmers from 22 barangays will benefit once the project is completed.
The CRPIP’s water source is the Chico River, the longest tributary of the Cagayan River. The pumphouse will be erected in Katabbogan, Pinucpoc, Kalinga while the Project Management Office that broke ground on August 17, 2017 is located in Naruangan, Tuao, Cagayan.
