NIA inaugurates Birung Small Irrigation Project in Liwan Norte, Enrile, Cagayan

NIA R2 – A total of P 52,611,116.78 worth of completed Small Irrigation Project (SIP) was finally completed. The Birung SIP was inaugurated in a simple ceremony on September 14, 2021, led by Senior Deputy Administrator Abraham B Bagasin. The project is located at Barangay Liwan Norte Enrile, Cagayan which is approximately 20 kilometers away from the new población of the Municipal Town.

On this event, SDA Bagasin said, “ang inauguration na ito ng Birung SIP ay sumisimbolo sa patuloy na serbisyo ng NIA sa mga kababayan nating magsasaka sa Cagayan. Umaasa tayong tataas ang produksyon ng ating mga magsasaka gayundin ang kalidad ng kanilang ani lalo na sa panahon ngayon ng kahirapang dinaranas ng bawat isa dulot ng COVID-19”.

As part of the Irrigation Development Phases of the National Irrigation Administration, the agency is obliged and mandated to turn-over the management of the irrigation system after completion to the Irrigators Association, who will be undertaking the overall operation and maintenance activities and to efficiently irrigate the 200 hectares service area with 89 farmer beneficiaries as part of the IA’s Organizational Management.

Attended the inauguration were, Hon Joseph “Jojo Pulsar” Lasam Lara, 3rd District Representative of Cagayan, Dr. Sara D. Lara, Regional Manager Raymundo B. Apil, Officers, and members of Birung Impounding Irrigators’ Association, Inc. headed by President Joseph Gonzales, Liwan Norte Barangay Officials headed by Brgy. Captain Rodrigo Magbitang, Administrative and Finance Division Manager, Ms. Rubelita S. Bancod, CBIMO Head Office employees led by Engr. Geffrey B. Catulin, CBIMO Cluster Heads, and Mr. Abraham S. Collado.

In his message, Congressman Joseph “Jojo” Lara, “This is a culmination of one of our dreams, dream na naging realidad. Magagamit na natin and matagal na pinapangarap, matagal na inaasam. Marami po tayong  pangarap towards sa ikagaganda ng buhay. With or without COVID-19, huwag po tayong tumigil mangarap. Kailangan palagi nating iniisip na at the end of the tunnel may liwanag po tayong nakikita. Sa lahat ng ginagawa natin kailangan natin maramdaman ang kaunlaran. He also requested to fast track the implementation of the Mamil Pumping Station in Enrile. Lastly, he also thanked the NIA management for their commitment to uplift the lives of the farmers”.

During the program, the farmer beneficiaries of Birung SIP were very thankful for the irrigation system that will help boost their rice production. “This is a blessing, not only for me but for the whole residents of Liwan Norte and Sur, Enrile, Cagayan”, President Gonzales said.

NIA Top Management Officials, headed by Administrator Ricardo R. Visaya, assured that the agency remains committed to its mandate of providing efficient, reliable, and sustainable irrigation service to the Filipino farmers.
