NIA inaugurates the first Small Irrigation Project in Sanchez Mira, Cagayan

NIA R2 – Under the management of Regional Manager Raymundo B. Apil has recently completed the P 19,299,561.46 worth of Small Irrigation Project in Bangan, Sanchez Mira, Cagayan through the Cagayan Batanes Irrigation Management Office headed by Division Manager Gileu Michael O. Dimoloy. Led by NIA - Sr. Deputy Administrator Abraham B. Bagasin, the first SIP in Sanchez Mira, Cagayan was inaugurated on September 15, 2021 held at Bangan, Sanchez Mira, Cagayan.

“Mabalin kayun nga agmula ken agapit a mamin duwa ti maka-tawen. Pagtalgedan tayo iti inanama ti Gobyerno tayo babaen iti NIA ket sumaranay iti anyaman nga kasapulan yu nga tulong. Iyun unay ku nga nakalukat ti opisina ti NIA kanyayu amin nga mannalon dituy Bangan,” SDA Bagasin said.

Gammaru SIP, whose water source comes from Tagunawan Creek, includes construction of earth fill dam, outlet works and spillway, canal structures, terminal facilities, and access road. It has a contract duration of 180 calendar days, that started June 1, 2020, and completed on August 27, 2021, as per revised contract expiration. (August 31, 2021). The project aims to provide sustainable agricultural development in the municipality by optimizing the irrigation potential of the area. The area to be generated will be 20 hectares with 48 farmer beneficiaries.

Attended the inauguration were, officers and members of Bangan Sitio Gammaru Irrigators’ Association headed by President Benjie Tabia, Bangan Barangay Officials headed by Brgy. Captain Rewin G. Valenzuela, Acting Division Manager of Apayao IMO, Engr. Samuel Bahiwag, CBIMO Head Office employees led by Engr. Geffrey B. Catulin, CBIMO Cluster Heads, and representatives from the FBS Construction.

Also, the Bangan Sitio Gammaru Irrigators’ Association led by President Tabia, expressed his gratitude to the management through the CBIMO for providing them this kind of project. “Malaki ang maitutulong para sa aming sakahan dahil noon ay umaasa lamang kami sa tubig-ulan upang makapagtanim.”

Indeed, the National Irrigation Administration, headed by Administrator Ricardo R. Visaya has only proven that despite all challenges and adversities during this COVID-19 pandemic, the agency is still committed in providing efficient, reliable, and sustainable irrigation service to the Filipino farmers.
