Solar-powered irrigation technology has been gaining interest nationwide and the agency has been promoting this option for both large and small -scale of farmers. On February 11, 2022, the NIA R2 under the management of Regional Manager Raymundo B. Apil through the Isabela Irrigation Management Office under the direct supervision of Division Manager Felipa S. Sumer, turned over four units of solar powered irrigation project in a simple ceremony to Barangay Santa Isabel, Jones, Isabela. The Php 10million CARP-IC worth project can irrigate up to 20 hectares with 26 farmer beneficiaries.
In attendance were, Vice Mayor Gaylord Gumpal, Barangay Captain Alberto Plaida, Chief of the Agrarian Reform Office, Engr. Cristeto Acoba Jr. Engineering and Operations Division Manager Orlando R. Espejo, Isabela IMO Division Manager Felipa S. Sumer, IA President Wilbert C. Villanueva and other officers and members.
The project started on April 20, 2021 and completed on December 14, 2021. The farmer beneficiaries were thankful to the solar powered irrigation system provided to them, the project represents a reliable, cost-effective and environmentally sustainable solution to reduce farmers’ vulnerability to energy shortages that hampers production.
EOD Manager, Engr. Espejo said, “haan kuma atuy nga proyekto ti gapu iti riri ti bawat miyembro ti asosasyon. Nu di ket urnusen tayu ti asosasyon ken pagsaritaan nu kasatnu nga maiwaras iti purpose na atuy nga proyekto ti amin nga mannalon ditoy Santa Isabel”.
