FSDE Update: Binogawan SRIP Started Borehole Drilling Operations

KASIBU, Nueva Vizcaya – The National Irrigation Administration - Nueva Vizcaya Irrigation Management Office (NIA-NVIMO) has commenced drilling activities at the Binogawan Small Reservoir Irrigation Project (SRIP) as part of its Feasibility Study and Detailed Engineering (FSDE) on February 5-7, 2025.

The geotechnical investigation at the proposed dam site is being conducted with the expertise of EVDC Geotechnical Engineering Consultancy, with key personnel on-site including Joan P. Velasco (Geologist, EVDC), Rissa Arellano (Engineer A, NVIMO) and Mary Joy Mabbin (Engineer A, NVIMO). Mobilization activities started on February 5, followed by the set-up of Borehole 1 (BH-1) on February 6. Drilling operations began on February 7, 2025, with a target of completing the 9 boreholes (BHs) by late February or early March.

These boreholes will provide valuable data on soil and rock composition, groundwater levels, and other geological factors crucial for the design and structural integrity of the dam, ensuring the stability and safety of the future reservoir and irrigation system.

Once completed, the Binogawan SRIP is anticipated to significantly improve agricultural productivity in the area by providing a reliable irrigation system. The project aligns with NIA’s commitment to sustainable water resource management and rural development.
