San Ramon, Mallig, Isabela—On February 18, 2025, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Isabela Irrigation Management Office (IMO), together with the Presidents of Irrigators Associations (IAs) in Mallig and farmer beneficiaries, gathered for the inauguration of six newly-constructed solar-powered irrigation units under the Mallig River Irrigation System.
These solar-powered irrigation projects will provide water to an additional 33 hectares of farmland, reducing farmers' reliance on expensive diesel-powered pumps. With this innovation, farmers can now irrigate their lands more efficiently and at a lower cost. Moreover, the ease of operation allows even women farmers to actively participate in irrigation, fostering inclusivity in agricultural production.
This initiative is part of NIA’s ongoing commitment to empowering farmers and enhancing rice production in the province, ensuring sustainable and cost-effective farming solutions for the years to come.
