NIA R2 Completes Cabayabasan SWIS in Lallo, Cagayan Without Delay

A small water impounding project is a structure constructed to hold back water and develop a reservoir that will store rainfall and run-off during the rainy season for future use. On February 23, 2022, the NIA R2 under the management of Regional Manager Raymundo B. Apil through the Cagayan-Batanes Irrigation Management Office under the management of Acting Division Manager Minda A. Battung, turned over the Cabayabasan SWIS in a simple ceremony to Barangay Cabayabasan, Lal-lo, Cagayan.

The CY-2020 program was funded under CARP-IC amounting to Three Million Pesos  (P 3,000,000.00). It was completed with an irrigated area of 30has of rice land. An additional fund of Seventeen Million Pesos (P 17,000,000.00) was given for the full implementation of the project generating a total of 100has. with 105 farmer beneficiaries.

The scope of works undertaken for the Phase 2 were construction of spillway, canal lining structures and access road. Through the Cabayabasan - Capacuan Small Water Irrigation System Association Inc. representing the Nueva Segovia Agrarian Reform Community, the project was fully accepted.

In attendance were, Municipal Administrator Joseph Bacuyag, Barangay Captain Wilson Banayos, PARO-II Val M. Cristobal, Engineering and Operations Division Manager Orlando R. Espejo, CBIMO IMO Division Manager Minda A. Battung, IA President Daniel Cabiles and other officers and members.

Engr. Espejo also appreciated the cooperation that everyone displayed making this project completed ahead of schedule. “Ang NIA ay patuloy na susuporta sa mga farmer beneficiaries through increasing irrigated areas contributing to agricultural productivity”, he also added.

Indeed, NIA has only proven that despite all challenges and adversities, nothing can stop the Agency in providing efficient, reliable, and sustainable irrigation service to the Filipino farmers - the backliners of this battle against COVID-19 Pandemic.
