NIA Region 2 Turns Over Sto Tomas Small Irrigation Project in Claveria, Cagayan

Sto Tomas Small Irrigation Project, located at Barangay Sto. Tomas Claveria, Cagayan, was turned over on July 27, 2022. The event was jointly undertaken by the NIA-CBIMO, LGU, IA Officials & members, Barangay Officials, and the Contractor. The project was funded under SIP 2021 amounting to P15,000,000.00 with a total service area of 50 hectares and 40 farmer-beneficiaries. It was completed on November 29, 2021.

IA President Ruben Dalire- expressed his appreciation for the project because it has no doubt that this is very beneficial to the farmers, and as a matter of fact, the IA members already utilized the irrigation system since the last cropping season (Dry 2021-2022), he also added that the maintenance activities became easier compared to those times that they are still maintaining their brush dam and earth canal. He then assured NIA to keep the irrigation working and the Irrigators Association vibrant.

Municipal Agriculturist- Virginia Lagadon was also very grateful for all the projects implemented by NIA in the municipality of Claveria because irrigation is one of the major needs of the farmers in the locality. She assured NIA and the IA of the full support of the MAO’s office on the different programs and services that will be delivered and given to the farmers.

Engr. Geffrey B. Catulin- EOS Chief of CBIMO- in his message, said that to maintain the proper use and care of the irrigation system, unity, and cooperation among the members of the association must likewise be strong. He also urged the IA to have regular coordination with NIA and LGU especially when they have irrigation concerns so that it will be catered the proper way.
